I’ll admit, I don’t enjoy watching TV anymore. When I was living with my parents, they had cable, and I couldn’t find a thing to watch! There are far too many shows about negative or uninspiring topics (crime scene investigation, extramarital affairs etc). My husband & I don’t have cable in our home. Our antenna gets us the NBC, CBS and on a good day we get PBS. We subscribe to streaming but the only things I watch now are reruns of shows from the 1970s-1990s.
The girls at work started buzzing about this new show on NBC called This is Us. I do trust the women I work with (they are librarians after all) so I thought I should give it a try. I must’ve missed the first half of the season, but was able to catch up on HULU. At first I was confused and not impressed. But a few episodes in, I was HOOKED. I had a hard time digesting this concept of going back and forth in time. But soon I realized how critical it was to explaining the story of each character.
I don’t want to summarize the show for you. Do yourself a favor and watch it. Why? Because it is the closest thing to REAL that is out there. I know that sounds funny because the show is fictional. But it COULD be real. To see human being’s flaws so raw and watch how that has effected so many lives over time is amazing. We are so busy perfecting our online profiles that we sometimes forget each one of us struggles. Our struggles while at varying degrees, are all valid no matter how great or small.
[On a side note, as a Gilmore Girls fan, I didn’t think I could enjoy Milo Ventimiglia as any other character but he NAILED Jack.]
