Book Review – Punching the Air

Punching the Air
by Ibi Zoboi & Yusef Salaam

Wow. Just wow. Firstly, this book is written in verse, which sometimes turns me off. Books in verse can either ruin a story OR really pack a punch. Luckily, this book really packed a punch. I read it in one sitting. I could not put it down, even though It was hard to read because of subject matter (false imprisonment, prison life and injustice), but I pushed through and I am glad. The main character’s words are all internal, but they are loud and so raw, especially coming from a 15 year old boy. BRAVO.
