Why does everyone make fun of self-help books? Most consider them a waste of time, but I disagree!! Do some self-help books state the obvious? Yes. But, quite often, we are so busy that we FORGET the obvious! I am always thankful for the reminder. I probably wouldn’t buy self-help books unless they really speak to my soul. But I sure read a lot from my local library.
There have to be a million books about mindfulness these days. There’s your proof we need to slow down and actually think. And what better way to think then to read a book?!
I am especially delighted to see the resurgence of journaling and doodling. I would spend hours scribbling and writing as a young child. I am so excited to have a journal, Happy Planner and all sorts of colorful pens!! Really helps me chill. I appreciate a good brain dump!
Reasons I Love New England
Having four seasons
I cannot imagine a place that doesn’t have four seasons. I like to be hot, cool, cold and warm. Maybe that is because I am a glutton for punishment, like the rest of the New England population. It is refreshing and always feels like a new start, regardless of the temperature. After a long winter, you learn to appreciate the colors and blooms in Spring!
Is there anything more beautiful that fall foliage? The intense colors are amazing. LOVE IT! I actually drive hours to New Hampshire to look at leaves. Seriously.
Summer on or at the water
There is nothing better than jumping into the ocean on a super hot day. I also love the feeling of sand between my toes. You can’t beat the breeze off the water while having dinner on the deck!
First snow is refreshing. You can almost smell it in the air. I feel like it kills the germs and wipe away the dirt!
First signs of Spring after a long winter
I love the first snow but I hate the rest! Winter can seem really long, especially if we have a lot of power outages. The first signs of Spring – flowers blooming, colors and warm temperatures are so wonderful and are a renewal.
As I get older, it seems different things motivate me. If you know me, you know I am never motivated to exercise. Jumping jacks, sits up and stretching are a total drag. But I do it anyway because it’s good for me.
What I do love is walking. I love to walk because it is good for me. I love to walk because it allows me to see. I love seeing things. Looking up, down and all around provides endless inspiration. And of course, I am compelled to capture it all in photographs.
I am a true believer that whatever you are preoccupied with as a young child will be a driving passion in your adulthood (notice I didn’t say career). I was always preoccupied with old photographs. I loved to study the people and the places in photographs. I always made note of the date and styles of clothing or furniture. So I suppose it seems obvious that I would be interested in capturing everything I see now. Perhaps someone else in the future will look at my photographs and feel the same now as I did as a child. I hope so since most folks don’t even print photographs any longer.
